Early detection of health problems is often the key to successful treatment. Women are encouraged to regularly have smear tests, learn how to perform their own breast checks, and monitor their weight and blood pressure. Our medical team can also assist with contraception, fertility and menopausal issues.
Having regular cervical smear tests every three years is the best way of finding and treating abnormal cell changes and preventing cervical cancer from developing. All women aged between 20 and 70 who have ever been sexually active should have regular smear tests. Both Chadwick Healthcare’s nurses and GPs are qualified to perform smear tests.
All women aged between 45 and 69 are entitled to free mammograms as part of the National Breast Screening Programme. In some situations screening is appropriate outside of this age group so please discuss this with one of the GPs or nurses. We are happy to assist with enrolment in Breast Screen Aotearoa, or you can enrol directly by phoning 0800 270 200 or enrolling on-line.
Catching the flu is different from catching a cold. Influenza is a serious illness which can drain your energy for several weeks, put you in hospital or can even be fatal. Influenza is highly infectious so an annual flu vaccination is the best way to protect yourself. If you suffer from a long-term health condition, are pregnant, or are aged 65 years or over, flu vaccinations are free. Please contact our reception staff to make an appointment.
Chadwick Healthcare’s team of nursing staff conduct regular clinics to help patients with the following issues: Lifestyle counselling, weight management, chronic disease management and diabetes care. Professional and confidential support is offered to help patients address these long-term health issues and improve their day-to-day wellbeing.
